Adding media – overview

Whether it’s an image, a video, a PDF document, here’s a quick look at how you upload them and get them into your WordPress content.

Get the Flash Player to see the wordTube Media Player.

  1. Will this work for flash documents?

  2. Yes, it will, Stephen, but in a very limited way. If you upload using only the built-in WordPress library system, you must use SWF files (not FLV) – and when you go to insert it into a post or page, be sure to use the Link File URL button.

What you get is simply a link to the SWF file and when you click on it, it will play through your browser.

If you want to actually embed Flash (so you can control sizing, have play/pause buttons etc.) you’ll need to use one of many WordPress plug-ins (I like WordTube) – then you can use SWF, FLV, or use external video links from, say, YouTube… much more flexible in other words.

    I feel a new video brewing :-)
